Seder ’11: 20/30
As kids, the Seder experience
was an endurance test.
We sat as quietly as we could
waiting
waiting
waiting
for my grandfather(Zeddie) to
recite the Haggadah
and get us to dinnertime.
I couldn’t understand his reading.
No one could.
We could try and follow
but it was a challenge.
Others participated,
but he was the center of our ritual.
Now my brother Jeff
lead’s our service
And we all share the experience.
We read in English and sing in Hebrew.
But there’s no more waiting for sustenance.
In fact, we begin the holiday celebration with
a Happy Hour and Passover approved appetizers.
I remember my Zeddie fondly,
But I embrace our modern updates.
