Slice 27/31 and Photo 84/365
I’m writing this slice back on the road at the Northampton Inn at 5 AM. I hope there’s more sleep to come, but for now, I’m taking a break. A nice hotel room filled with flowered spreads, curtains and pillows, an old hotel with history and the modern comforts.
After the opening session of the New England Writing Project Retreat 2009 we had dinner, met in the hotel tavern for tech talk and then Steve and I walked the town. We tried to leave our winter coats behind but even though it smelled like spring, it wasn’t, not quite.
But the night walk was delicious as we joined the crowds in cafes listening to live music, lining up for ice cream, drinking coffee, just beginning their night on the town. Our walk was short. We stopped for lattes to go and soon we were back at the hotel hungry to just enjoy the comfort of downtime.
The ride from Nyack was almost easy. The sunshine helped as the roads clogged with Friday afternoon drivers. There was just enough time to drop the luggage and join Jackie and Steve and Kevin as we settled in with a a collection of NWP representatives from across New England. We wrote together about our common issues of continuity, did some sharing, had dinner and then our new tech group moved down into the hotel tavern to prepare for our presentation in the morning.
And as I think about it, there’s a slicing connection as well. Kevin and his WMWP buddy tdawg, are both slicers and we worked together tonight face-to-face on our tech project. Slicers and Writing Project techies.
It all comes together.
