A Pilgrimage to PRUNE: SOLT & Conversations with Eileen

Now this adventure, my friend, would be very hard to accomplish if I had been living in Ellenville, that’s for sure.

Two Bonnies and one Julia = Girls Night Out Book Club.

We’ve been reading, eating and sharing together for maybe 16 years, even though it doesn’t feel like 16 🙂

Over the years we have loved many of our book selections but a book titled Blood, Bones & Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton took my breath away from its first paragraph…

Product Details

Reviewers may refer to it as a “foodie book” but for me, Gabrielle shares the passion and preparation of  “the meal”  as she shares her life as a member of a food-loving family. And she can’t get away from her roots in food as she continues her adventures when she takes her life on the road.

And why should she?   Prune is her wild creation and after years of food preparation in this cozy space, even with the fame of this memoir, it remains true to its roots and as we learned today Gabrielle, who continues to live close by, remains engaged there and with just  a word from our terrific waitress we got to meet and share a photo op with her.

Prune and Gabrielle surpassed all expectations!

As we rode home, escaping the coming rush hour on an Tuesday afternoon, we digested our great day together, planning for more.

  1. This looks like just a great time with your group, eating good food at a great place, Bonnie. The pics are scrumptious!

  2. Elsie

Those are the best of times, friends, food, and great conversation. 🙂

  3. I read this book over the summer! I thought it was fantastic. It was so well-written, and yes, about so much more than food. My friend, who is from Lambertville, tells me that Gabrielle’s father still owns a restaurant there. Maybe another pilgrimage in your future?

  4. Hmmm… Cool idea but do I want to meet the dad? There’s a movie coming out with Gwyneth Paltrow. What a great story for a movie don’t you think?

  5. Great photos, Bonnie. I particularly loved the one of the sugar bowl with the Sweet n Low and the Equal peeking out behind them.
