A Christmas Day Wedding: Conversations with Eileen & Slice of Life Tuesday

Morning Eileen and Slicers,

I’m up early as usual and even though I still don’t have a tree to celebrate the day, after today the Kaplans will have something to celebrate on December 25th.  My nephew Josh and her girlfriend Rasha are getting married today!

Josh picked the place, the Shanghai Deluxe in China Town.  Why?  Josh maintains that  Jews eat Chinese food on Christmas day and the restaurant has a wide screen TV for the afternoon basketball game, BUT the larger reason for celebration is the wedding of a Jewish guy and the Moslem girl ( with roots in the West Bank) that he loves and soon December 25th will be their day, religious neutral.  In fact, my mayor brother will be marrying them at half time.

Bravo to my brother and sister-in-law for accepting and supporting their son and welcoming Rasha into the family.  So far, most of her family haven’t been able to do the same.  But she does have a sister by her side and she was with her for the Saturday night party at Dassara Ramen, Josh’s hit restaurant.

I don’t know that this union will move along the Peace Talks but it’s a sign of movement beyond the divisions.

I’ve been feeling the love vibes of Josh and Rasha this week and I’m hoping for more.

As we left the wedding party on Saturday night the gold goodie bag was filled with a bottle of olive oil. I will cherish each drop.
